There is nothing that changes as fast as fashion does.
Though we generally associate fashion with clothes and
other accessories, it is defined as the manner in which
something is done or happens. Hence, the concept of "fashion"
can apply to music, art, politics and even mathematics
and the choice of programming techniques. Fashion exists
even in the fields of aesthetics with innovation.
There are so many factors influencing fashion. There
is nothing that will be accepted universally as fashionable
because of the huge gulf in culture especially between
the east and the west. However, due to the general trend
of people in the east to follow western culture, western
fashion is considered as the trend setter. Age is another
major factor influencing fashion. Thus what is considered
as fashionable among the young may be considered as outrageous
by the older generation.
Movies and movie stars are the factors that influence
fashion the most. Due to the mass following that movies
have, almost anything shown in movies will be considered
as new fashion. This is especially true in places like
India. Peer pressure is another factor that influences
styles and trends. The fear of being left out especially
in educational institutions induces the young generation
to follow any current trend.
The fashion industry is a very challenging and lucrative
one. Though almost every youngster has an ambition of
being a model, it is only a handful that really makes
it. What most people fail to understand is that beyond
the glamour associated with modeling, there is a life
filled with many hardships. Fashion designing is another
aspect of the industry which requires a lot of training
and expertise.
Fashion is also considered as a status symbol with the
trend changing according to the social class in which
the person moves around. Today the fashion industry is
one of the most profitable industries. As people compete
to keep up with the latest trends in fashion, the industry
goes on growing at an unbelievable pace.
