On Saturday, May 21, the first annual
‘Real Hot’ Fashion Show took place to benefit the Fire
Safe Council of Fallbrook, Bonsall, DeLuz and Rainbow.
Many residents may not realize that Fallbrook is the number
two fire risk area in the state of California, which is
why the Fire Safe Council was formed after the Gavelin
Fire of 2002. The fundraiser sought to raise enough money
to encircle the city with a buffer-zone, a project that
would take many years to complete. They plan to raise
enough money each year to clear the dry vegetation and
create this buffer a little bit each year. This year they’re
hoping to clear 14 miles. “Let’s not only say that we
love our community, let’s be a part of our community and
keep it safe by learning how to not only protect our own
home but bring awareness to others,” is what Phyllis Sweeney,
chairperson of the fundraiser, had to say in regards to
the community taking action. “And that’s the benefit of
today’s fundraiser — awareness and fun as well as safety.”
At the fundraiser, one could enjoy a secret bid on items
such as a couple of Jack Ragland prints and various artwork,
fine jewelry and gift certificates donated by local merchants,
or you could “shop” to suit your own individual style
from Donna’s Unique Boutique, who helped sponsor the fundraiser
by donating 15 percent of the proceeds to the Fire Safe
Council and also donated the clothes that were modeled
by Miss Fallbrook, Brittany Bigley, and her court, Trisha
Mahr and Chelsey Corcoran. Other models who helped sport
their style and fundraise were Karen Ward, Helen Johnson,
Lorene Bentley and Fallbrook’s own Honorary Mayor, Ruthie
Harris. ”The Fallbrook Fire Safe Council would like to
extend a heartfelt thank you to the contributors for their
support of our community, and whose contributions have
helped to make the first annual ‘Real Hot’ Fashion Show
a success,” organizers said.
