What is being touted by organisers
Pulse as its biggest ever Caribbean Fashion Week takes
place in Kingston, June 8-12.
Over 50 designers from more than 20 countries
will converge on the nation's capital for five days of
fashion excitement.
"This is our fifth anniversary and
we at Pulse will be pulling out all the stops to ensure
a quality week for all concerned.
From the fashion itself, to the after parties and expo,
Pulse will do what is necessary in terms of the planning,
to make this the most memorable CFW yet," Kingsley
Cooper of Pulse said.
The week's activities consist of nine
shows culminating with the Smirnoff Pulse 25th Anniversary
Fashion Collection on Sunday, June 12, an expo that will
run from June 10-12, after parties at Villa Ronai, Boone
Hall and the Caribbean Fashion Centre, opening night,
tours, cocktail parties, press launches and a cruise.
Participants will come from Germany, South Africa, Switzerland,
the United Kingdom, Canada, Venezuela, Suriname, the United
States and the Caribbean.
Opening night will be held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel
with the shows and expo scheduled for the National Indoor
Sports Centre.
Over 120 members of the international
press and buyers from around the world are coming to CFW.
These numbers include Vogue, Harpers & Queen, Full
Frontal Fashion, Fashion Television and Glamour.
Designers coming this year include Meiling,
the doyenne of Trinidad fashion, and another highly regarded
talent from the twin island republic, Claudia Pegus. Pegus
will show two lines at CFW along with an international
designer group that she has put together. They include
Corrine from Switzerland, Doreen Gittings from the UK,
La Femme Elegante from France (St Lucia-based) and Eleazar
Molina, a top jewellery designer from Venezuela.
Another designer who will be showing
two collections this year is Nefertari Caddle from Barbados.
Both her new Sea Island cotton line as well as her usual
up end collection will be shown. Guyana will be represented
by Sonia Noel, and Canada by the Toronto-based Stephanie
Scott, and Janise O'Leandros and Bernice Noel from British
Colombia. Gavin Douglas and Kelly Jade Nicholls, winner
of the British young designer award will come from the
UK. Philly-based Kiona Perry of Sas Urban Couture will
return to CFW this year, as will Atelier Dore out of Suriname.
Additional star talent coming from the
region include Robert Young, Zadd & Eastman, Pauline
Bellamy, Heather Jones and Rhaj Paul along with several
rising stars from St Kitts, Barbados, Antigua, St Vincent,
St Lucia and the Bahamas
